High positivity in some states could spur next wave: Govt | India News – Technewsbkt

NEW DELHI: Even though the overall COVID positivity rate has been less than 3% for more than a month, states such as Kerala, Manipur, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya still have a large number of districts where weekly positivity is higher than 10%, which is cause for concern. Center that could trigger the next wave in the absence of tight micro-level containment.
With the increase in active cases, these are among the top states along with Maharashtra. While 47 districts have more than 10% positivity, in 55 it is between 5-10%, official data showed from July 14 to 20.
While Jaisalmer in Rajasthan has the highest positivity rate of over 41%, other districts in the state such as Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Jhalawar, Tonk, and Rajsamand also have high positivity. In Kerala, nine districts, including Mallapuram, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Palakkad, and Thrissur, have high positivity rates. The rate is also above 30% in the southern district of Sikkim and Nagaland in Kohima. The Center has advised these states and districts to focus on aggressive testing and containment measures. As the RAT test is scaled up, all states have also been asked to continually increase the RT-PCR test, which is the gold standard of COVID diagnosis.
